Canada Introduced New Policies to Crackdown on Unauthorized Immigration Representatives

Pursuant to a latest report, with a purpose of cracking down on unauthorized immigration representatives, the Immigration Department of Canada introduced certain new rules and regulations which came into effect on May 25, 2012.

In this context, the Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister of Canada, Mr. Jason Kenney was quoted as saying that these policies are useful for investigating the professional or ethical misconduct of immigration representatives.

According to these latest rules, the CIC officials, the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Canada Border Services Agency are entitled to provide information regarding the professional or ethical conduct of an immigration representative to the those investigating or governing that matter.

Mr. Kenney further went on to add that providing information about the misconduct of an immigration representative with the regulatory authority will be helpful in protecting the integrity of the nations’ immigration system along with the immigrants.

Information about those immigration representatives who have violated their ethical or professional obligations can be provided to the governing body, in a way consistent with the Privacy Act at any time the CIC, CBSA or the IRB officials believe that is right.

The said report has also mention that Mr. Phil Mooney, the ICCRC Chief Executive Officer has supported these new rules. He further added that they are happy with the initiatives as these rules will help them in fighting against those remain unsuspected and vulnerable. Ever since the Canadian Government introduced C-35 Bill, now they have got a lot of support in their collective efforts to battle the alleged criminals.

Instances of allegations or proof which can be shared, like:

  • To make false commitment to the candidates;
  • Providing fake information regarding immigration processes of the nation;
  • Fail to provide promised services to between the client and the representative; or
  • Counseling to receive or submit fake evidence.

Mr. Kenney also mentioned that the Canadian government is mainly concerned about corrupt immigration representatives who cheat on those who wish to immigrate or stay in Canada. He said that the government will do everything to crackdown on fraud and provide protection to maintain the integrity of the immigration system of the nation.
