Canada PM Announces Major Changes in Immigration System

According to a recent report, the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, at the World Economic Forum, held in Davos, Switzerland, has announced a plan for long term financial growth of the country.

The PM was quoted as saying that the main objective of this plan is to reform the immigration system of the nation. He expressed that the government will ensure that they maintain their humanitarian commitment and the objectives of family reunification. Ottawa will focus on the economic and labour force requirements in the nation through immigration.

In this connection, the Citizenship and Immigration Minister of the nation, Jason Kenney, mentioned the points system of the country, which is used to evaluate the immigration applications of the candidates under the Federal Skilled Worker category.

According to this new plan, the nation will now focus on young workers and individuals with pre-arranged employments. It will also choose a system which will be more active, more approachable, and will employ people with higher skills required in the nation.

Besides, the points system for immigrants will be renewed, where more emphasis will be given to the skilled businesses learned via experience other than higher qualification. In this regard, Mr. Kenney further expressed that though, skilled program usually prefer people with higher qualifications, the large number of skilled vacancies in this Maple Country require people with basic skills.

There are many Canada PNPs (Provincial Nominee Programs), which have already been extended to invite immigrants, who can contribute to the economic growth of the nation. The Government is now expecting that by following the similar steps federally, Canada will easily be able to go for a more flexible migration program to fulfill the shortages of skilled workers in the country.

These above mentioned modifications are expected to make the immigration process of the overseas personnel a successful event, who were earlier unable to obtain PR (permanent residency).

Finally, Mr. Kenney closed the discussion by mentioning that there will be some additional modifications in the investor and entrepreneurial programs. More attention will be given to those, who come to the nation for starting high tech and research & development-based businesses, which can help the nation become wealthy.

The said report has also mentioned that the detailed and comprehensive information regarding the immigration reform plan will be presented during the spring. Although it only focuses on skilled migration, whether it will affect the other immigration stream of the country, like family class, is not clearly mentioned.
