Death of an Inmate at the Oakington Immigration Reception Centre

After the mysterious death of an inmate at the Oakington Immigration Reception Centre, investigations have strengthened to a major extend. Further, the officials at the center are facing heavy criticism knowing the fact that the victim died despite various cries for health care and painkillers.

A spokesman confirmed that that there was a sudden death at the center, with the victim identified as a 40 year old Kenyan, but he went on to say that the incident is not considered as suspicious. Police is investigating into the case further.

Another source dictated that the detainee was seen crawling on the floor after he was hit by a severe heart attack and had asked for medicines continuously, but met with his death at the end of the day. His requests were refused by the officials on a regular level.

According to Dashty Jamal from the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees, the detainee had asked for a doctor, but it is almost impossible/difficult to get a physician here.

Representatives from Refugee and Migrant Justice Group are demanding for quick enquiry and investigation. Caroline Slocock from the same department said that an incident of this kind should ensure that other detainees are reassured as soon as possible.
