For Canada, Immigration has been a significant driving factor in front-loading their economy with continuous growth, caring for shortages in labor, or acting as a strong adhesive in community development. Since there has been a flood of applications for permanent residency, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been undertaking measures to improve operations for faster processing.
Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, the Honorable Sean Fraser, announced that IRCC had overtaken its goal of 147,000 permanent residents’ final decisions during the 2022 first quarter. Via these kinds of efforts alone, Canada has invited over 108,000 new permanent residents during this very year.
Not only this, Canada has achieved the feat of surpassing its citizenship goals for 2021–2022, with over 210,000 new citizens of Canada. This is happening due to modernization and increasing the pace of services for individuals interested in becoming Canadian citizens.
It encompasses online testing, virtual citizenship ceremonies, and an online application tracker, which has been created for receiving updates on files. These new advancements have come to fruition due to the ongoing commitment of IRCC to client service improvement.
In 2021 alone, IRCC has made over half a million decisions and welcomed over 405,000 new permanent residents, which is the highest as recorded in the history of Canada. With additional funding of $85 million from the 2021 Economic and Fiscal Update, there has been a constant effort to slash down application inventories that were accumulated because of the pandemic.
This funding is being channelized to hire new processing staff, digitize applications, and reallocate work among our offices at a global level. These changes shall give clients access to practical and up-to-date information and show the number of applications being processed and the current realities of operation.
