UK: Education experts are of the belief that universities in the UK cannot afford the cut down proposed in number of overseas students, as it would affect their source of revenue. Further, education leaders are pointing out the fact that the educational institutions would be at high risk with their intentions to curb down the number of visas granted to global students planning to study in the UK.
Ministers are aiming at setting higher standards of having proficiency in the English language for the global students intending to study in various UK’s educational institutions. In addition to this, some ministers fear that students enroll themselves to gain a PR status in the country.
Reports say that the government of the UK is making minds and holding discussions to restrain down the visas for prospective students from outside the EU who are intending to join foundation course, less than the level of university degree. Statistics say that more than one lakh and eighty thousand applicants came to the UK in the year 2009 and enrolled themselves in various foundation courses.
On the contrary, university leaders and educational experts are saying that the cuts might create a bad impression for UK as a study destination and nay threaten the survival of various educational institution whose main source of revenue are the fee of overseas students.
These overseas students help in keeping various courses/departments alive and serve big when it comes to the survival of these universities.
According to immigration minister, Damian Green, it is essential to attract talented students in the nation but it is vital to be more selective at the same time too.
