Family Reunification in Denmark

Applicants planning to apply for a residence permit can apply on the basis of “family reunification,” provided they have close relatives living in the country. The first mandate is to meet the conditions decked with the same, after which, family reunification would be given to:

  • Spouses/ Cohabiting partners/ Registered partners (both must be over the age of 24)
  • Children under the age group of 15

If the applicant is granted a residence permit, it would be granted on a temporary basis. Further, an application for the extension of the residence permit can be made. The approval of the same would allow the applicant to later apply for the permanent residence permit after finishing the required period. However, the claimant is required to fulfill certain mandates linked with the application process (http://www.abhinav.com/denmark.htm).

Normally, applicant who has been granted a resident permit under the family reunification has the right to work in the country. It is essential to note that in accordance with the EU regulations on free movement, Swiss citizens as well as applicants applying from EU/EEA are subjected to special rules while applying for the permanent resident visa. Special rules are applicable for those residing in Denmark (the spouse/partner or the parent) as student.
