Singapore is one of the developed nations in the world where in each year many immigrants come to seek better opportunities for life. At the same time, illegal immigration has been one of the major threats that the nation is facing.
With efforts being made in order to reduce the number of offenders pertaining to immigration, this rate has come down by about 33%. The total number of people arrested has come down to 2,077 from the earlier 3,111 which was recorded in the first half of the previous year. This clearly projects the efficiency in curbing the issue by the government of Singapore.
In addition to the above, there was a decline in the number of employers catering to immigration offenders as well as the harbourers. The rate of decrease was about eight percent for the harbourers where as a reduction of twenty one percent for the employers.
Now that significant achievements are being made, the government cannot simply stop at this. More needs to be done to further decrease the number of offenders in the nation. This requires specific laws to be written for each and every prospective employer employing a foreign national. This should involve filing an application to obtain a work permit which is commonly known as an Employment Pass.
More so, it has to be ensured that the migrant only reports to work when he has acquired his Employment Pass. To cater to this, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) has asked for public support to keep a check on this issue.
