Is Australia is heading the same way as France and Canada? After the latter two expressing their strong views against the Islamic head-to-toe veil, an Australian senator voiced his thoughts regarding burqa (niqab). Cory Bernardi strongly believes that the Islamic veil is a sign of domination of men over women and un-Australian.

The senator has written this on his blog stating an example of an armed robbery that happened in Sydney, where the accused was covering his face with a burqa. According to him, for the sake of the nation’s safety, burqa should be outlawed, especially in public places. The senator also emphasized that overseas Muslim migrants in Australia should adapt to the local values, if they intend to live in the country.

On the other hand the talk of banishment on burqa is creating animosity among Muslim community in Australia. In response, a member of the Islamic Association of Australia said that Muslim women should given the choice to wear the full veil if they like to wear.

Recently, there have been many countries that expressed their positive opinion on banishment of the Islamic veil. A few days ago, in Belgium the lower house of Parliament has passed a draft law to banish wearing the veil in public. Besides, France and Canada are the two countries that have supported ban on the full veil worn by Muslim women!
