Canada plans to welcome over 401,000 newcomers in 2021, and most of them will arrive through Express Entry System. The country has set out the most ambitious immigration targets over the next few years. The year 2021 looks promising already, as Canada has invited over 25,000 permanent residents this year. Recently, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held the largest Express Entry draw wherein it invited 27 332 applicants with at least 75 Canada PR points. They restricted the draw to Canada Experience Class candidates.
Besides CEC-specific draws, IRCC has also conducted various draws for applicants who had successfully applied through a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). In February, Canada’s government invited every candidate under the CEC category to apply for over 27000 invitations. Now March has arrived, with two draws for PNP candidates and another big draw, 5,000 ITAs, for CEC candidates.
We can’t predict what would happen in the next Express Entry draw. All we know is that Canada is determined to welcome more and more newcomers through express entry programs and would do anything to maintain its immigration levels. Travel restrictions delay Canada from achieving its target; however, the immigration minister has clearly stated that the efforts will be focused on inviting new residents and providing temporary residents the support they need to become permanent residents.
