More than 30,000 US H-1B visas Available!

About 31,000 H-1B visas are still available to be applied for the fiscal year of 2011. This has been informed by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Initially, during the boom years, these visas were always found to be short of with many firms finding it difficult to cater to visas for their employees of foreign origin.

As of now, the economy of the United States has not completely retrieved from the global meltdown. With this situation in place, not many are petitions are being filed for this visa. At the same time, this is definitely a good sign for those organizations who have been finding it hard to obtain H-1B visas. If looked into the past, for instance in 2006, all the visas were filed for in one day itself.

The H-1B visa is meant for those professionals who have bachelor’s degree or higher who intend to work in the United States for a US based employer. This visa also includes fashion models. It is for those professionals who intend to work in a specified field of job.

All the professionals working on an H-1B are permitted to reside it the United States for a period of 3 years beyond which they can apply for an extension for up to 6 years. In case, the applicant also qualifies for another visa, he can reside for a longer period of time.

The usual limit on these petitions on an annual basis is 65,000. With this, an addition of another 20,000 petition is permitted under the H-1B Masters Degree Exemption. This permits the first 20,000 applications for those with a Master’s degree or higher to be exempt from the cap.

As of now, the availability of visas for 20th August 2010, the cap limit for the normal H-1B cap is 65,000. But only 33,900 have been received as of now. The H-1B Masters Exemption has a cap limit of 20,000 with only 12,600 applications received till now.
