As per the Australia Immigration SkillSelect updates, in the short listing round conducted on April 14, 2014, the authorities selected 1200 people for the next round of selection of section 189 federal permanent independent class. Similarly, 15 applications were picked up for section 489 nomination temporary class.

The figures of profiles short listed for the next round of selection round of section 189 indicate in positive direction, i.e. over 94% of the EOIs selected for the next round of application processing had scores between 60 and 70. Out of these numbers the majority of profiles picked up had scores of 60 and 65. Only 6% of profiles selected had scores above 70 (75 and 80).

Although, these selections do not rightly indicate at the true situation in each individual trade pool, but these figures are encouraging enough. They highlight the positive sentiments in the selection rounds, i.e. the race for the final births in the race for Australia Immigration visa is still very much open.

For some of the trade codes, the authorities have decided to continue selection of applications on pro rata basis. These occupations include 233411 – Electronics Engineers and 261399 – Software and Applications Programmers. 65 marks were pitched as minimum cut-off mark for 233111 – Chemical and Materials Engineers, 261111 – ICT Business and Systems Analysts, 263311 – Telecommunications Engineering Professionals and 70 marks was established as threshold for 233999 – Other Engineering Professionals.

Similarly, the selection rounds on the front of provincial nomination classes have been equally positive. In March 2014, the participating states short listed over 1100 people for section 190 permanent visa and over 150 people for section 489 temporary class. The states also selected 200 people for section 188 temporary class visa of business migration class of Australian Immigration. For section 132 permanent class business visa states nominated 30 people.
