US B2 Visa, USA Visitor Visa—Facts, Required Qualifications

USA Visitor Visa is also known as the US B-2 Visa. It is a non immigrant category, recreational in nature. It is issued to foreign citizens entering the country on a temporary basis (short term) for various reasons, such as visiting children, family or friends, tourism, attending family events or ceremonies, medical treatment or simply pleasure. Citizens of many countries–such as Austria, Denmark, Spain, Norway, Japan, etc– have been given a relaxation of acquiring a visa for up to 90 under the US Visa Waiver Programme (VWP).

  • B2 visa is subject to legal approval
  • Tourist Visa is issued with a specific purpose only, like medical treatment, tourism, etc. The aliens entering the country with a B2 Visa should not enroll themselves into a course of study, start a business venture or take up a job.
  • B2 Visa is issued for up to six months. An extension of further six months is a subject of approval. To extend your visa, you will have to file a B2 Visa extension application to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) with the processing fee.
  • Applicants under specific cases can be allowed to participate in a course which is recreational in nature and is not credit based. The duration of these courses should not extend from 18 hours on weekly basis.

Required Qualifications

You must be able to prove to the consular officer that you are eligible to acquire US Visa as per the US Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The Section 214(b) of the act states that each B2 Visa applicant is an intending immigrant.

You must successfully reject this presumption by demonstrating:

  • The purpose of your visit is temporary in nature.
  • You intend to return to your native country before your permit expires.
  • You have enough funds to cover your stay in the nation.
  • You have a permanent residence outside the US, and share social and economic ties that ensure you will come back after a limited period stay in the US.

Who Does Not Get B2 Visa!

  • Those who fall under the age group of 15-30 years.
  • Those who are unmarried or a divorcee.
  • Those who have lost their passport.
  • Those who are a widow or a widower.
  • Those who hold a criminal background.
  • Those who have given false information to the consulate officer.
  • Those who have submitted immigration petition on their behalf.
  • Those who are not financially strong.
  • Those who do not file their income tax return annually.
  • Those who very frequently have traveled to certain specific countries.

The category does not permit dependents to come to the United States along. Dependents may have to qualify on their own. However the B2 Visa category can be used by the dependents of other non immigrant visa categories.
