Washington DC Shows US the Way, Draws Highest Number of New Residents

In what had been rightly predicted before, and for the fourth year at a stretch, the capital of the United States yet again emerged as the leading destination amongst those who made an interstate move during the year gone by. A yearly migration study, which covered 146,000 moves made interstate, about 200% of the US citizens made a move to Washington, D.C. than those who went out, in the process, making it the most migrated to place across the entire country.

Thanks mainly to the initiatives of the government, while unemployment headed north across most parts of the country, during the last four years, new jobs were being produced in or around the D.C. Since 2008, the Central Government has employed nearly 150,000 workers even as this does not include postal workers.

Several of the new jobs were in the D.C. and the nearby places across Maryland and Northern Virginia. Perhaps, what else went in the favor of Washington DC is the fact that lately there has been a continuous swell in the wages offered by the government to those on its payrolls, even as this attracts several well-off qualified professionals to the place.

Florida, North Carolina, Nevada, Oregon and Illinois, however, proved to be losers and they witnessed big flights. Other notable losers were New York, New Jersey, West Virginia and Michigan. However, it was North Dakota which emerged as one shocker, even as it saw as much as 56% of outbound interstate moves made by its migrants.
