A woman tourist who debarked from an Emirates flight was arrested by an official from the Immigration department at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport as she was having an invalid passport.
The police officials have confirmed that Ananta, aged 24, the woman in concern, came from Doha on the Saturday morning. When she was going through the routine immigration checks, she was found carrying an invalid passport that did not mentioned her name. Carrying a fake document is one of the immigration crimes. The passport which she was carrying was on the name of one Pilli Mariam of Visakhapatnam district.
However, it has been claimed by Anantamma that she has no idea what this scam is all about. The passport was provided to her by one of the Indian Embassy officials in Doha. She was employed in Doha for the past two years as a laborer.
Later, she went to another country by using her original genuine passport, the same was deposited with her employer. It has been a very common practice which is seen in Gulf countries. Employers tend to deposit the passport of their employees and keep them with themselves. This is done to ensure that laborers do not flee the claws of their employers.
Ananta was planning to return back to India as she was not very happy working in Doha. But she was refused her passport. Hence, she applied for another one at Indian Embassy in Doha, the same which has been claimed to carry fake details.
Investigation is going on.
