7215 Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades in Canada!

The occupation of Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades is one of the recently added occupations in the newly brought out list of 29 occupations for immigration under federal skilled worker program brought out by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. This group includes contractors from the carpentry and the cabinetmaking trade who own and operate a business. It also involves supervisors who coordinate the work being done by different workers. These basically include cabinetmakers and carpenters. These people are mostly recruited by carpentry contractors, construction companies, and industrial organizations with a maintenance department and so on.

Qualifying Criteria

  • The applicant must have atleast a Bachelors degree with some form of training in carpentry.
  • An applicant must have experience of at least one year as a carpenter or related field.
  • Overall, a person must have experience of around 2-4 years; actual number of years of experience to apply under this occupation is dependent on many factors such as whether the applicant is married and his English language skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Planning on methods to be followed aiming on finishing work in a given schedule, coordinating and supervising as well as scheduling the activities of the carpenters.
  • Solving problems pertaining to work and advising on measures for improved productivity.
  • Overseeing conditions pertaining to safety standards being observed.
  • Materials and supplies requisition.
  • Training or setting up for the training of the workers.
