Canada: Bill C-49 is facing opposition from all over the world. After the Bishops, it is the Liberals who are showing their opposition to Bill C-49. The government has their view that it would curb down the number of undocumented workers and the aspect of human smuggling in the nation.

The Liberals are not in favor of the Bill C-49 as they it would be targeting the genuine asylum seekers rather than the human smugglers. As far as the opposition parties are concerned, Liberals are going to mark their vote against the bill along with them. The opposition would make it sure that the bill is killed before landing to the committee stage.

According to Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff, they have maintained to be constructive and positive. It is because of the fact that human smuggling is a critical issue in itself, but after giving so much consideration to it, it has been considered that the bill is in violation of the Charter.

He went on to say that it is not in tradition of the country to give mandatory detention for a span of one annum with reviewing. In addition to this, punishment should be given to the criminals who are guilty and not the victims.

According to Former justice minister Irwin Cotler, it is a bad bill. This bill is totally opposite to the values and rights of Canada. This is not something which would get the support of Canadians. This is contrary to the values of Canadian people.
