Arizona bill passed, Governor yet to sign

The State of Arizona has finally passed the much talked about Immigration Bill which is supposed to be the one the firm legislations on immigration in the United States. This bill would allow the local police officers to check the immigrant status of the migrants living in the United States. The bill was passed by the Senate by a vote of 17-11. The signatures of the Governor, Jan Brewer are awaited as of now.

As of now, the police are only permitted such a step if any individual is being suspected of any criminal offence. However, there are many including the immigration lawyers as well as the ACL of Arizona fearing that the new bill would aid to racial profiling. This is because most of the police men do not have the relevant training required to deal with this. More so, it is more like attacking certain communities.

The law only permits those migrants who have all the relevant alien registration documents at all times of their stay in Arizona. With this, the police have all the rights to question any immigrant who they suspect to be an illegal or those hiring or transporting such migrants knowingly or unknowingly.

On the other hand, the Democratic Leadership opposed to this bill saying that this bill does not actually cater to the real problem of immigration in Arizona. They called it more of a jigsaw puzzle made out of immigration laws.

However, the Governor of Arizona has assured that she would do what is fair and right for the state of Arizona and its residents.
