British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program allows BC employers to hire certain health care professionals under the Designated Health Professionals category, which fall under the strategic Occupations. Some of those professionals include:
- Registered/psychiatric nurses and physicians hired by British Columbia’s provincial/regional health agencies executed by the government-funded health care recruitment provider, Health Match BC.
- Midwives.
All the prospective nominees are required to meet other basic requirements set by the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program in order to able to apply for this sub-category of the Strategic Occupations.
In order to be able to practice in the British Columbia as registered nurses, nominee applicants must be registered with BC’s College of Registered Nurses. Similarly, when it comes to psychiatric nurses, applicants must ensure registration with the College of Registered Nurses in the province.
Now, those physicians are eligible for the Designated Health Professionals category who have the experience of working in British Columbia for a minimum period of nine months on a work permit. Such nominee applicants must also have a letter which possesses positive feedback of their conduct/work from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
As for midwives, nominee applicants must exhibit eligibility proof for the registration with the College of Midwives of British Columbia. Applications for midwives must also enclose a confirmation letter from established British Columbia practice group, which says that the group acknowledges the nominee applicant as an affiliated midwife for a time period of 6 months (minimum).
