Here is a quick checklist for all the newcomers, a list which is a must to cross check to get your vital things done:

FIRST FEW WEEKS:

  • Exchange some of your native currency with Canadian money (to ease out your transactions)
  • Look for accommodation (go for a rented one as hotel rooms would be an expensive options initially)
  • Always keep ID Proofs handy with you.
  • As soon as you land, apply for Health Card
  • Keep the map and telephone directory handy with you
  • Apply for Social Insurance Number

NEXT MONTHS

  • Leave the option of rented apartment and start finding permanent accommodation
  • Look for educational institutions for enrolling your kids.
  • Get a telephone installed in your home. Other services like medical and banking to name a few need to be addressed too.
  • Have your family members immunized by consulting a doctor
  • Look for a good job to sustain your living
  • Socialize by making friends and connecting with neighbors
  • If you have NOT learnt any official language, register yourself for language classes
  • Apply for the GST/HST Credit and Canada Child Tax Benefit

AFTER THE COMPLETION OF ONE YEAR
