Key Requirements

  1. A graduation or post-graduation college program in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Telecommunications Technology or an equivalent is usually required for Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technologists.
  2. For Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technicians, you need to complete a one- or two-year college program in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology.
  3. Certification in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology or in a related field is available through provincial associations of Engineering or Applied Science Technologists and Technicians, and may be required for some positions.
  4. Prior to certification, a period of administered employment experience of two years is required.
  5. In Quebec, membership in the regulatory body for the professional Technologists is needed to use the title “Professional Technologist.”
