The Prime Minister of Australia Julia Gillard attended her first cabinet meeting after assuming the post. The venue for this meeting was the Clontarf Beach High School situated in the north of Brisbane, Petrie. This is Queensland’s only marginal seat that is presently with the Labor.
Julia Gillard’s cabinet session was attended by more than 300 people. Kevin Rudd was expelled from his position once Gilliard won her position. Rudd was not present for the event. She was applauded by the audience as she and the rest of the ministers were introduced to the audience. The Prime Minister had to answer a lot of questions in fields like education, environment, population and health.
She was particularly thrown with questions like energy demands of the country as well as issues like immigration, currently the hot topics overseas.
She was asked to voice her opinion of nuclear power, she said that the currently there was ample amount of energy generated from renewable sources of energy and the generation of nuclear power would not be economically efficient.
When asked about the role of asylum seekers in Australia, especially those getting their culture with them i.e. burqas and other such practices, she said that whoever migrates has to merge with Australian culture and not set their exclusive groups. Australia has been warm and welcoming to the migrants, and they have to respect the democracy, laws and the principles of the country. If they cannot abide with the few conditions, they are free to leave the country.
Gillard truly impressed the ones present with her warm attitude and intelligence. She will be meeting with Anna Bligh on the challenges faced by the nation and fortifying the economy.
