With the House of Representatives being mostly controlled by the Republicans, it seems that the efforts being put by the Obama administration seem to be spoilt. According to Lamar Smith, a Republican, stronger enforcement of the present laws pertaining to immigration would be stressed upon as of now.

As per Smith, is important that these laws are enforced in order to have better control over the national borders as well as prosperity of the nation economically. It is vital for the nation to know as to who is entering the nation and for what purpose. Smith is widely being speculated to be announced as the Chairman for the House Judiciary Committee in the next Congress.

While chalking out his priorities, he also stated that he would look into implementing policies that would ensure national security. At the same time, it would also work to deter illegal migration along with drug trafficking and human smuggling.

For those who don’t know, Smith was an adversary when it came to the efforts being made by Obama when it came to immigration reform. These comprehensive reforms were mainly focused to cater to a way towards citizenship for the million of Americans who are undocumented residents.

The enforcement of immigration law has been constantly criticized by Smith. At the same time, the controversial law introduced in Arizona has been supported by him. Following the mid-term elections, the Republican Party has taken over the House of Representatives. It is being expected that the Party would elect its leaders by the middle of December.
