Proposals have been brought about which suggest that adult dependents of skilled migrants would no longer be qualified under the Indefinite Leave to Remain. These cater to those who are in UK under the Tier 1 and Tier 2 program.
When it comes to those dependents above 18 years of age, they are permitted to apply under the Indefinite Leave to Remain along with their parents at the same time. However, in the future, the children of those living on Tier 1 and Tier 2 visas might fall under a different visa category altogether in order to live in UK. However, they might be permitted to live in the nation under students’ plan of the Tier 4 program. Otherwise, they might have to apply under the Tier 1 or Tier 2 visas individually.
On the other hand, when it comes to the Tier 1 and Tier 2 programs, it has been found to be very tedious by the children of skilled migrants to continue to live in the nation. With this, if the Post Study Work Program under Tier 1 is also removed in the near future, the situation would become dire for such dependents who wish to live in UK.
However, this does not mean that the new policies are sure to come into effect. The proposals would first be debated in the Parliament. In such a case, it is best to apply now for your dependents as amends in the law could be brought about any time without any prior notice. This way, the applicants would be able to avoid the strict new rules which might make it tough for the immigrants.
At the same time, with the immigration cap brought in, chances are higher that those who have been eligible earlier might not be anymore. This cap is already being criticized by many leading business in UK who are anticipating a downfall in the economy. More so, it is being feared that they might have to relocate their business overseas.
