Rights and Responsibilities of Canadian Citizens!

Now that you have landed in Canada and have become a part of this country, knowing about the rights and responsibilities that are linked with being a Canadian citizen is a must! Legally becoming a Canadian citizen means that you get all the rights that are enjoyed by every Canadian, an aspect which also means that you must take care of certain responsibilities too that are associated with you being a citizen.

As RESIDENTS, you have the RIGHT to:

  • You have all the freedom to express your opinions
  • Live anywhere in Canada
  • Socially associate with anyone
  • Follow any religion/ or NO religion
  • Be protected from unlawful arrest
  • Hold gatherings peacefully
  • Get services from Federal government

Here are your RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Laws should be Obeyed
  • Learning either English or French or both
  • Assist Others
  • Work and take care of the dependants (family)
  • Take care of the natural resources and Canadian heritage

CANADIAN CITIZENS have RIGHT to:

  • Vote
  • Apply for Canadian passport
  • Enter Canada and leave it freely
  • Stand for Election

Here are your RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • If required, testify in the court
  • VOTE
  • Serve in Jury, if called

Certain Points That Need to Be Remembered:

  • Polygamy is illegal
  • Fairness and Respect for everyone is expected. Dignity should be maintained.
  • Equality between both the sexes should be maintained
  • NO discrimination would be accepted
