Recently the government of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador declared the opening of its new immigration pathway, which plans on retaining newcomers who are already residing in the province. Known as the Priority Skills Newfoundland and Labrador immigration pathway, under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP), this route will majorly concentrate on highly educated and highly skilled applicants having work experience in specific industries like technology.
This particular program is set to be introduced on January 2, 2021. This initiative will further lead to the province’s progress in specific high potential growth sectors facing a local labour shortage. As per a media release by the province, the launch of this brand new stream has been an answer to addressing local employers’ demand for a highly skilled and experienced workforce.
Who can apply for this new immigration pathway?
- Masters or Ph.D. graduates from Memorial University are eligible to apply under this pathway. They should have graduated within the last three years, holding a degree in information and communication technology, ocean technology, healthcare, agriculture, and aquaculture.
- Also, professionals with a strong history of work experience in the following highly skilled high-demand occupations shall be counted:
- Software Developer
- Biomedical Engineer
- UI/UX Developer
- Electrical Engineer
- AI Developer
- Mechanical Engineer
- Python Developer
- .NET Developer
- Infrastructure Engineer
- Security Specialist
- Cloud Specialist
- Bioinformatician
- Computer Network Support
Also, as an additional requirement to migrate to Canada from India or any other country under the said program, the desired candidate will be asked to showcase their proficiency in the English language via undertaking one of the following tests of language fluency along with getting a score which is equal to Canadian Language Benchmark level 5 or more
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS),
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)
