According to news by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, thousands of undocumented Punjabis are making Europe as their homes in an illegal manner. According to the report, they are entering the premises in huge numbers every year. The stats say that almost 20,000 enter the European countries on an annual basis, without proper visas or documentations.

Some of them end up being in jails, some lose their money in lakhs, while some commit suicide as they fail to get the required jobs and settlement, courtesy their illegal status. The report clearly points out towards the direction that illegal migration not only creates havoc in the life of the applicant but destroys the surroundings of the prospective country to which they are migrating.

KC Saha, former consultant of UNODC brought out these facts in front of the media. The report says that it is easy to conduct illegal immigration from big cities as the people behind it can remain anonymous and carry on with their illegal activities.

The aspect of Illegal immigration is harmful for the government of all the countries as it enhances the instances of terrorist activities to a major extent.

Other countries like Austria, Germany, France, Spain, to name a few, face similar incidents of illegal immigration every year. Therefore, it becomes mandatory that government should come out with stringent security checks to stop this continued process.

The sad part is that many of them spend millions of Rupees for illegal immigration when they can take legal immigration by spending the around five million Indian rupees under the Canada Immigrant Investor Program

Recently, few Indians have been arrested in the United Kingdom for multiple immigration offences. The UK Immigration took the Indian citizens, including twelve men and a woman into custody, while they were caught during the seizure of a Heathrow-based freight warehouse and residences in Hayes and South hall. They all are alleged with working illegally in Britain.

While conducting some inspections on the freight as part of the seizure of the Scanwell Freight Services, the immigration officials went on to interview its staff, in order to determine whether they are legally allowed to work in the UK or not. Eight Indians were found guilty of immigration offences at the time. The officials warned the freight company that it could be required to pay fine of up to 90,000 pounds for employing the eight people.

Following the arrests in the warehouse, searches were conducted at some residences as well in Hayes and South hall, where the officials arrested five more Indians and a South African man, guilty of similar offences. Seven accused amongst the fourteen are now in immigration detention. The UK Immigration is considering deportation of these illegal workers from the UK.

The UK Immigration is taking illegal working of the overseas workers as a serious concern. Because, this type of activities is likely to have an adverse effect on the local communities, since the foreign workers often take away the jobs from the local workers who genuinely deserve the jobs!

Recently, the Australian Immigration Minister, Chris Evans stated and made it public that the employers would use the temporary skilled visa program, that is 457 Subclass only if they do not able to find skilled workers within Australia.

The government made it clear that Australian employers are now required to look for the local workers to fill the vacancies first. Further they will be able to use the 457 Subclass visa scheme and recruit overseas skilled workers only when they do not find Australians who could fit the bill. With this, the Oz government wants to deliver that the local skilled workers should be given the priority and provided with the job opportunities created in the country.

The government is trying to make sure that the hiring of overseas employees does not affect the local skills. It is true that Australia needs skilled overseas workers, but at the same time it is also important to ensure that the temporary skilled visa holders do not replace the local workers. As a matter of fact, Australian workers have always been concerned about the possibility of bringing in foreign skilled workers at cheaper rates, thereby making local skills out of work.

However, the Worker Protection Laws are there to protect the rights of the Australian workers. According to February statistics, the average salary of a temporary visa holder in Australia is near about $100,000, up $10,000 from a year ago. The stats clearly show that the 457 Subclass visa holders are highly skilled workers and working for the same pay rates as local residents, which further indicates that the worker protection policies have been effective so far and are working!

Of late, the number of refusal cases of Labor Market Opinion (LMO) applications of Canadian employers is increasing, thanks to the more demanding regulations pertaining to the LMO applications and to some extent the global economic downturn! Labor Market Opinion approval becomes important when it comes to obtaining certain Canadian work permits by Canadian employers. When the employers want to hire overseas workers, they need to make application for a LMO to the HRDC. In order to obtain the approval of the Service Canada, the employers are required to convince the HRDC that they have tried to hire a Canadian for the job that they are eventually offering to an overseas worker. An employer should make all the efforts, like publishing advertisements on newspaper for the vacancy in order to convince the authority. Once the Service Canada is satisfied that there are no Canadians who fit the bill for the offered job, it gives confirmation/approval or confirms the offer of employment to the overseas worker and then issues the Labor Market Opinion letter to the employer.

It is unfortunate for Canada to have increasing numbers of refused LMO applications, especially when the country needs more international workers. So, here is the lesson for Canadian employers that they should prepare their LMO applications more carefully and convincingly, so that they could get the approval. All you employers need to do is that make your applications as persuasive as possible when it comes to making the efforts in searching for the local worker to fill the offered job!

Applying for jobs in Canada will now become easier! Canada has recently declared the commencing of new credential offices in India, along with other countries, including China, UK and Philippines.

According to reports, Immigration Minister Chris Evans is expected to come out with certain Immigration changes that would favor those skilled migrants who speak good English. In addition, the changes are expected to target the employees who hold sponsorship by employers rather than self-nominating applicants.

Senator Evans confirmed that close to half migrants with skills on MODL, manage to get jobs in their field, and the rest end up with no jobs in their hands or satisfy themselves with low-skill jobs.

Evans went on to say that skilled migration is one of the critical facets of Australian immigration as it contributes to the overall economy.

Talking about the new system, he said that the amendments would allow potential migrants get more points on the basis of their qualification in high value professionals, experience level, proficiency in the English language and qualification from a prestigious university.

The new amendments would surely have an impact on jobs, as many overseas students have already engaged themselves in courses present on in-demand list, which may no longer assist them in permanent migration!

In another news piece, stats show that around 90% of temporary migrants, the ones who were given Subclass 457 visas last year are highly paid professionals. As far as the temporary skilled migrants are concerned, the overall pay package is around $100,000, with those belonging to mining field, having an average pay of $169,000.

Foreign Skilled workers employed in Western Australia belonged to the highest paid category, followed by New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, Northern Territory, ACT and South Australia.

The devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti has led to the immediate implementation of immigration reforms by many governments. The similar is the case with the United States. Many groups have been calling to act upon the status of the immigrants and refugees, especially those from Haiti.

As of now, there are around 30,000 Haitians in the US who are under the orders to be deported. They would be given a TPS or the Temporary Protected Status by the Department of Homeland Security.

Currently, this status has been given to immigrants from El Salvador, Somalia, Honduras, Sudan and Nicaragua. This status would permit a time period of eighteen months which could be extended at a later stage. The status for first granted to Honduras and Nicaragua way back in 1999 after the Mitch Hurricane.

This is an opportunity for these people to earn and send some money back home to rebuild their nation. This has also been promoted by the Federation for American Immigration Reform which is more known for its less immigration stand. However, the Federation feels that this status should later be lifted off once the specific country is out of crisis.

A man pretending as a Visa agent duped hundreds of applicants to get the job of salesmen and later disappeared with the application money. Chetan Mehta, the man behind the racket escaped after promising jobs in Dubai to almost 300 people in Ahmedabad.

The police cross-examined Bharti Dolariya, the deputy of Chetan Mehta, but did not take her into custody as there were no ample proofs against her. She was working at the position of a telephone operator in the Cross World Organization, owned by Chetan Mehta.

A group of victims, who suffered the scam, approached Navrangpura police station, in order to file a complaint against Mehta.  KC Rathod, the investigating office for the case, stated that the statement of Bharti Dolariya has been recorded which states that she had no knowledge abut the deceitful activities going on in the organization. Bharti’s job responsibilities included transferring the telephone lines to her boss. The Navrangpura police (in Ahmedabad) have passed this information to the Immigration office and asked them to bar Chetan from escaping the country.

Incidents like these spoil the image of the “Immigration and Visa agents” as an identity. Not all fingers are same! Goa tourism minister Francisco ‘Mickky’ Pacheco, in a recent TOI (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/New-regulations-will-bring-in-genuine-tourists-Mickky/articleshow/5442458.cms) report said that the new visa regulations would help in bringing in more genuine visitors to Goa in the coming years. The amendments would further keep a strict check on the “illegal immigration,” which is one of the root causes that weakens the overall economy of a country in a major way.

He said that stringent regulations would prevent the applicants with tourist visa to take any employment. Also, 90 days are ample for the tourists to enjoy their time in Goa.

The minister further commented on the people who get long leaves from their jobs and said that these are the ones who survive on “Employment Doles!” He asked: Do these people actually spend this much amount? Talking about the retires who spend months here, Mickky said that they too survive on doles!

The new amendments would ensure that international migrants stay away from any kind of violation of their status by keeping the facet of ‘Illegal Immigration’ miles away!

The huge number of jobs hiring in Australia over the last three months has pushed down the nation’s unemployment rate to a considerable percentage.
